The Nature Park of Madeira

A nature park consists on a conserved area previously delimited, out of urban areas and protected by law. It´s objective is preserving local flora e fauna and creating a study and leisure society.

Seeking the preservation of a vast natural patrimony, which range from rare flora e fauna on a global level, which was created in 1982, The Nature Park of Madeira, park classified with a Biogenetic Reserve, in which you can find various species of animals and unique vegetation.

Covering two thirds of the island of Madeira´s territory, we leave you information about the principal nature park reserves in Madeira.

The first Walking of Madeira Rural

Saturday, 23th May 2009, start the first Walking organized by Madeira Rural, where started in Paúl da Serra, a beautiful place in Madeira Island.

The walk began by 10h. The cold and the mist had been feel but the enthusiasm and happiness of the people make this walk possible. The course has been guided by Prof. António Tanque that in the course has been explaining mysterious and curiosity of the footpath.

In the end of the course, has been waiting a marvelous lunch that had the typical prick and for deserts something sweet and fruit.

This was the first Walking of Madeira Rural with act living together, happiness and contact with the nature.

1- Is Madeira Pass a good deal for me?

2– Do I need to make a reservation for the Boat trip OR Jeep Safari?

Well, for the Catamaran it´s not mandatory, but we advise you to. For Mountain Expeditions it´s mandatory as they will pick you at your hotel.

3- What is a OR (optional) Ticket?

Madeira Pass includes two optional tickets. One gives you the choice to visit either Palheiro Gardens OR Madeira Story Centre. The other gives you the choice to experience either a Jeep Safari OR a boat trip along the coast.

4- What do I do if my Madeira Pass is lost or stolen?

Madeira Pass is like cash in your pocket, If lost or stolen, no refund or replacement is possible.

5- What about discounts for seniors or children?

 Madeira Pass is already a deeply discounted collection of tickets, with significant savings for all ages and interests. There is no children reduction because most of the attractions are free of charge for children.

6- If I don’t use every ticket, can I get a refund?

Madeira Pass booklets are not eligible for refund after being activated (when the first ticket is used).

7- Does Madeira Pass includes transportation?

Madeira Pass does not include transportation.

8 How do I know when attractions open/close and where I should start?

On the back of each entrance you can find the schedule and the opening days.

9- When does the 9-day booklet validity period begin?

Madeira Pass tickets are valid for one-time use within nine consecutive days. The first attraction you visit stamps or scans your booklet to activate the booklet’s nine-day validity period.

Sugar Cane in Madeira Island

Sugar cane is a plant that grows best in tropical regions, due to the tropical climate available. Sugar canes are rich in sugar and can reach heights of 2 to 6 meters. The sugar cane is famous to those who live in Madeira and also tourists who have tried our sugar canes.

The sugar cane plant is considered as the most important agricultural cultivation in the history of humanity, also due to its high commercial value and multiple uses; it has become widely cultivated around the Madeira Island.

In Madeira, the sugar cane is used to produce various traditional products that are sold around the island and are also sold outside of the island. Traditional products such as Honey cake, Sugar cane honey, Sugar cane spirit, Honey biscuits etc.

The sugar cane plant is collected and made in one of three honey mills. There is a honey mill in Calheta, Porto Cruz and Ribeiro Seco in Funchal.
